It takes 2 hours to reach the Titanic wreckage (per CNN and The Washington Post ) and communication was lost 1 hour and 45 minutes after they began their descent, which is about right on schedule. Maybe they descended just a bit too quickly (eg- the ballast was too heavy) and either became entangled in the wreckage or landed on the muddy seafloor. The weather was bad at the time they launched so they may not have been thorough enough in their pre-launch checklists and such. It was reported in Rolling Stone today that banging sounds were heard at roughly 30-minute intervals by a Canadian aircraft in the approximate area where the submersible went down. This story just keeps becoming more and more taut and tense, especially given that seconds are ticking away which could mean the difference between life and death for the five men.

@JunkBondTrader how do they drop the weights if they're stuck in the mud? As I understand it, in order to drop the weights all five men have to stand up and lean their body weight against one side of the compartment to "tilt" it (longitudinally) so the ballast rolls off
