  1.  @NikoBased  not really. Even you or I could disappear and stay disappeared for a certain while (especially if you receive help from someone else, as was the case here). Sooner or later though something’s gotta give. You run out of cash, food, etc., or you just become delirious from the isolation. This convinces me that someone is harboring him. If he’s so smart then he wouldn’t have done so many stupid things to incriminate himself, like arriving home without his fiancée, then promptly taking off, being seen in public assaulting his fiancée, buying the new cell phone, etc.,

  4.  @colleentierney5573  possibly. The reason he hasn't been found yet isn't because he's smart; it's because the authorities have been DUMB. They should be looking at his relatives in N.C., maybe even friends or associates back on Long Island (it actually becomes somewhat easier to hide in heavily-populated areas as you sort of get lost in the shuffle). There is NO WAY he left the country, no way. Personally I feel he is still in Florida. The simplest outcome is usually the most correct one.

  5.  @NikoBased  at the time he disappeared (Sep. 14th or thereabouts), he was not yet considered a suspect in Petito's murder. Even now he is technically only considered a 'person of interest', and the only crime for which he is wanted is the debit card fraud. So if he showed up on a friend/relative's doorstep on the 14th or 15th, I don't see necessarily why they would've turned him away. That's not to say they didn't begin putting pressure on him to take his things and leave as his notoriety grew and the case drew more attention. We know the parents are lying pieces of garbage, so I don't know if we can put it past the grandparents or someone else to give him aid and shelter. For the life of me I don't know why the authorities aren't interviewing his extended family.

  6.  @NikoBased  he had to come back home to get money, clothes and other personal belongings. I could see him possibly making it to North Carolina to his relatives there, but these other commenters suggesting he's in Central or South America (are you kidding me?!) are just plain idiots who overestimate the capabilities and intelligence of this trailer park trash.

  8.  @OceanSwimmer if authorities had queried his relatives in other states I’m sure the media would’ve caught wind of it. I wouldn’t be surprised if the media have secretly staked out the grandparents’ home in NC looking for signs of law enforcement vehicles or maybe even a glimpse of Dirty Laundrie himself.
