  2.  @ronaldreaganrimjobs4670  at least in the Wild West you could buy a gun to protect yourself. Chicago has outlawed them to the extent that only criminals and gangs have them while decent law abiding citizens have no means to protect themselves. Heck even pepper spray is restricted here.

  3.  @shaungains3558  you mean the same Chicago teachers who receive a starting salary of $56K (the highest in the nation) who walked out on their students three weeks after the start of classes to whine that they weren't being paid enough? Yes, it's ridiculous they were asking for more money considering they never gave Lightfoot any proposals on how to pay for their demands. We already have the second-highest property taxes here in Illinois (more than any other state except New Jersey), we have the highest sales tax in the country and a regressive 5% flat tax on income. Even Lightfoot could see that the money simply wasn't there.

  4.  @shaungains3558  the $56K is only the starting salary. With seniority teachers can make well over six digits. So yeah sorry, I don’t feel the least bit sorry for them. They lost my support the way they walked out of classes and basically held Chicago’s students hostage to get what they wanted. And I’ll say that without any fear of some Leftist calling me a racist/fascist/sexist/homophobic/xenophobic/transphobic/Islamophobic bigot which is what Leftists usually call anyone who doesn’t agree with them or cave to their demands.

Considering she's fiddling with that paper clip I'd say it's more a combination of extreme anger and anxiety (she feels she can blame all the city's problems on someone else and she resents being held accountable for any of them). She's in no mood to take questions from reporters. This is probably the worst press conference I've seen any elected official give, that I can recall in recent memory.

  20. Crime is a problem in Chicago, yes, but it's not even the city's most urgent problem. What about the high taxes which are stifling entrepreneurship and forcing businesses out of the city. Also the minimum wage laws which are causing inflation and making businesses reluctant to hire or causing payrolls to be trimmed. There's too much regulation here. Our infrastructure sucks. The justice system is a joke. There is not enough respect for individual property rights. Neither the city nor state can balance a budget to save their lives. Nothing here ever gets done on time or under budget, like the airport train which has been out of service now for three years.

  21.  @whiplash5026  my point is that people tend to fixate on these "surface issues" so they miss the forest for the trees. Just like when you ask people what they hate about Florida everybody's first answer is about the humid weather and hurricanes.  I've lived in Chicago now for three years and I've been getting bruised by a subpar job market which has forced me to take jobs in retail and services that are below my skill level. The job market here is overrated and I blame it mostly on the high-tax, high-regulation environment. Oh, and the fact that I'm white and most employers here are Affirmative Action.

  22.  @whiplash5026  sadly it may come to that. I'd hate to have to leave Chicago for that reason because my rent is very affordable (I live in one of the city's nicer neighborhoods) and I love the food here. But I suppose there's more to life than deep dish pizza and Italian beef sandwiches.
