If he won't admit he was drunk then why should I trust one word of the rest of his story?

@kennykeel7193 trust your instincts man. If his story doesn't seem right, then yes he is lying. Or omitting information. He wouldn't even answer the question about how much he had had to drink.

The alcohol would've protected him against hypothermia. This happened to one of the cooks who survived the Titanic sinking.

@stab74 look it up. The Titanic’s cook (Charles Jougin) survived immersion in the freezing water by consuming a lot of hard liquor.
