It's a one-time payment, your unemployment benefits will not be affected (in fact the federal government is kicking in a 13-week extension on top of the 26 weeks you normally get). One other thing...you won't get a check if you didn't file a tax return, or if your income was less than around $112,500 a year as a single filer (see the IRS website for further details).

Why should ANYONE who paid $0 in federal income tax (i.e. people with children) receive a stimulus check when they're already getting a big fat tax refund at this time of year anyway? I'm SICK of paying for somebody else's kid(s).

That's current Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao and he asked her "how's transportation?"

The silver lining to all of this is that when we finally do come through this, we will see a huge increase in people working from home which means less traffic and less pollution.

Pamela W I don't blame children for anything. I blame their idiot parents who failed to take into consideration the costs to raise a child. This lack of responsibility means their innocent children will grow up to be a bunch of clowns with no moral compass like their parents, and this vicious cycle will repeat itself until the end of time. People can have as many children as they want as long as they have the financial means. Otherwise they should be prepared to bear the costs and not let other taxpayers pick up the tab. For starters we should eliminate this RIDICULOUS child tax credit which does nothing more than encourage irresponsible people to breed. If anything, we need financial incentives for people NOT to have children. Don't worry about the end of the world, if there's one thing on this earth which there is no shortage of, it's humans.

Pamela W I'm paying my own Social Security (on top of the crippling federal and state income taxes which I already pay, as an unmarried childless individual as you correctly guessed -- people look at me in disbelief when I tell them how much I earn in a year and how much I pay in taxes). The children of today won't be paying diddly squat if they (like their parents) grow up to breed large families and milk that child tax credit as well as welfare payments. And if you're going to posture as someone who cares about children, how about giving some thought to the $2 trillion that we just added to our already-staggering national debt and what that means for future generations.

Pamela W I paid $1600 in federal income tax last year. Doesn't seem like a lot of money, but on an income of only $30,000 it takes it toll. That doesn't even include my state income and FICA taxes. So don't you dare accuse me of being a "narcissist" when 47 percent of Americans pay not one dime in federal or state income taxes.

Pamela W you have very warped logic if you consider people who choose to remain childless as "narcissistic" or "seflish". Just the opposite is true. People like me are responsible enough to recognize and take into consideration the enormous cost to raise a child, therefore we are careful enough not to conceive any children that other taxpayers are going to wind up paying for. Taking hard-earned money out of one taxpayer's pocket and giving it to someone who hasn't worked at all, or giving even more money to another taxpayer just because they have children is grossly unfair and borderline criminal. Because that's what the child tax credit is. I am tired of owing thousands in tax dollars each year while people who choose to have children get big fat juicy four-digit refunds. If you're independently wealthy have as many children as you want. But if you can't feed 'em, then don't breed 'em. So in your view, or, according to your logic, would a 24 year-old mother of five be considered a "hero"? Praytell Pamela.

Pamela W for the record I have health insurance (which I pay a hefty sum for). As far as medical savings accounts, it's kind of hard to save money when you work your ass off to pay your living expenses AND taxes (again because half of our population chooses to have kids which means I have to pick up the slack, i.e. I have to pay double the amount of taxes that I normally would) not to mention rent, utilities, transportation. I live about as barebones as I can but still have to scrap and save. I worked THREE jobs (seven days a week) for the last six months of 2019, and now I work two jobs in addition to attending school part-time (although I've just been laid off from both jobs due to the coronavirus) and NOW, even though I'm going to struggle to pay my bills until I find a new job, you and other people still do. Funny how on the one hand you're falsely accusing me of wanting to neglect children and elderly who might get sick, but then you turn around and say people like me should be left to die if they get sick, because we're "selfish" and "narcissistic" for not having children.
