I'm a Democrat (a Moderate) but I have to agree that Liberals are too soft on crime. Law and order is the one issue on which I agree with conservatives, and particularly illegal immigration. There are, however, a fair share of Republicans who aren't tough enough on crime, either.

Instead of the death penalty, why not bring back chain gangs and hard labor camps?

He's very well-spoken, and appears at ease in front of the camera. As the saying goes, the eye sheds a tear to regain its focus. The tragic circumstances which he has had to endure, are what motivate him and provide the power behind his message.

My question is this: Polly Klaas' killer has been on death row for 23 years now while his lawyers have filed one appeal after another. Theoretically he could live until he's 90 before the appeals process has been exhausted; even Marc Klaas himself has said he doubts the death sentence will ever be carried out. So what difference does Gavin Newsom's order make in the grand scheme of things? Also, wouldn't a different governor be able to come along in four years and reverse it? One final point: Newsom was very upfront about his position on the death penalty all during his campaign, so why are Californians acting so surprised by this? They VOTED for him.

@ch70 Richard Allen Davis CONFESSED to the crime - so now that this argument goes out the window, tell us another one

@lorewilhelm9182 some Republicans have been soft on the illegal immigration issue too. Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham, among others have favored amnesty. Ronald Reagan signed an amnesty bill for 5 million illegals. George W. Bush supported a Guest Worker bill which amounted to open borders. Don't act like Republicans are above this.

@bobbyfrancis8957 gotta make them chains extra thick

@magadude9131 then you are obviously a hyperpartisan fool if you believe Republicans have been perfect on illegal immigration. Even plenty of Republicans have been critical of fellow party members on this issue.

@davidneraas750 if Californians are dissatisfied with Newsom's announcement, they can vote him out in two years when he runs for re-election.

@magadude9131 uh-huh, I hear this excuse/retort all the time (i.e. "oh I'm not a Republican/Democrat, I just agree with a lot of what they stand for" ). I guess people feel threatened by knowledge. BTW, it's you're not "your". And it's illegal not "illigeal". If you're going to accuse others of not knowing how to read then you yourself should at least know how to write . That's it, no need for further discussion.
