@amberagain3487 you have a lock on your door ”you guess for safety” ? You GUESS? What I infer from the rest of what you wrote is: you’d be willing to allow as many strangers as can safely fit into your apartment, even if you weren’t sure whether they were criminals, rapists and/or thugs (hopefully you don’t keep valuables or large amounts of cash in your apartment) and it’s your landlord (not you) that gets to decide who comes and goes. Sure, I’d be happy to listen to your points now.

@amberagain3487 let me ask you a different question then. You imply that you’re indifferent as to whether your door is locked or unlocked at night, saying that you lock it only “out of habit”. What if the lock were broke, faulty, or the door did not come with one? Would you protest to the landlord and demand it be fixed?

@amberagain3487 I can tell you some other things that I do “out of habit”. Whenever I get into a car I buckle my seat belt. Whenever I’m crossing a busy street I pay attention and look both ways. Whenever I’m driving in rainy or icy conditions, I keep my speed down. I’ve done all of these things so often that they become second nature after a while (“out of habit”) but my underlying objective is my personal safety. I don’t do them just for the fun of it.
