@MrEkzotic Florida for some reason has always had a reputation for having a low cost of living, but that’s extremely inaccurate. There simply isn’t enough housing being built to keep up with the population growth. Naturally when you decrease the supply but the demand remains constant or even larger, then prices go up.

If you're already independently wealthy and looking to save more of your wealth, it makes sense to move to Florida. OTOH if you're starting out in your career, California is a better place to live as it has far more job opportunities and far better salaries than Florida, notwithstanding Florida's lack of an income tax (which only benefits wealthier individuals).

@MrEkzotic California may have a higher cost of living but salaries are proportional. As long as you're not living in San Francisco you're ok. Florida's wages have not kept pace with its cost of living.

@MrEkzotic lol, yes but you likely wouldn’t see a $60K SALARY in Florida for the same type of work. That’s what is known as the “sunshine tax”. California’s economy is extremely diversified (aside from Hollywood and Silicon Valley you have a large manufacturing base as well as financial sector). Florida’s economy on the other hand, is based on only one thing: tourism. There is virtually no other industry in the entire state, other than agriculture. So, if you are lucky enough to find a $60,000 salary in Florida, then in many parts of the state it will certainly go a lot further than in LA or San Francisco. But my point is you’re likely not gonna find a $60,000 salary. For the same job in Florida you’re going to be paid a lot less than you would in California (due to the saturated labor pool) thus offsetting any savings. That’s what’s called the sunshine tax.
