  2. +Romyan wages don't always keep pace with the cost of living. Actually they often don't. Firms can outsource to countries with cheap labor. Additionally, population control -- and that includes immigration restrictions -- is essential to keeping wages from becoming depressed (like you said, supply and demand). When the labor pool becomes oversaturated, firms have more applicants to choose from and can offer less pay for the same work.
