  2. @dthomas9230 being Vice President is much less of an incumbency advantage than being President. Al Gore (2000), Hubert Humphrey (1968) and Richard Nixon (1960) are all incumbent Vice Presidents who lost the general election. Then there was Vice President Walter Mondale (although not an incumbent) who got trounced by Ronald Reagan in 1984. Americans look at the Vice President much differently than they do the President.
