  1. The media want everyone to think Dukakis lost the race on this one question. The media themselves are the ones who develop the debate questions so they love having their "gotcha!" moment and they love for people to think a candidate lost because of them. In truth, there were many factors that played into Dukakis' defeat, not the least of which was the Bush campaign being so aggressive with attack ads, and Dukakis playing it cool by not responding.
