  1. I work retail and I disagree that self-checkouts destroy jobs. You still need someone to count the cash and make safe deposits, monitor the customers against skip-scanning, replenish receipt paper, and plastic bags, conduct age-verification (for alcohol or tobacco purchases) clean the machines and perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting. Automation doesn’t destroy jobs, it just changes them.
