Yeah that's what I had thought too. I thought they descended too fast (due to too much ballast weight, either unintentionally or even by design of that Rush guy) and I thought they landed hard and became stuck in the muddy seabed. I was glad (and I feel strange saying this) to hear the news that they imploded, because that means a quick and painless death. I couldn't bear the thought of these five men stranded at the bottom of the ocean, with no warmth, no food or water and dwindling air.

I think they had to go through various channels to get clearance to publicly disclose that information. I'm surprised they disclosed it at all.

@845835 that’s not true. Many foreign militaries know our Navy has underwater listening capabilities, but I doubt any of them until now suspected we were employing these technologies a thousand miles off our coast, in international waters. Well the US has just tipped its hand. Just like how most drivers know there are speed traps out there, but they don’t know the exact locations where the cops are hiding. Same principle.

That's less than a mile down. I would think they'd be much further down after almost two hours. I'd say deeper than 3000 meters.
