I worked for a bank for three years and now I work retail. Gift cards are so rife with fraud that it’s pointless having them. Every week I see at least one person (usually elderly) spending hundreds of dollars and they even become angry or defensive with me when I try to refuse the sale and/or warn them that they are being scammed.

@mightybeast5301 that is not true . You're misinformed there little man. Even if you're under 18, you can still have a credit card. It won't be under your name -- however, you can be added as what's called an "authorized user". Talk to your parents and ask them to talk to their bank about adding you as an authorized user (I worked for a bank for three years). You can also have a DEBIT card which is linked to a checking account for which one or both of your parents is a co-signer. Kids as young as 8 can have a debit card. Good luck. 👍
