@dritemolawzbks8574 not only would HSR be hugely popular with Americans, it would force the airlines to improve their service in order to compete. Just like in Field of Dreams ...if you build it, they will come.

@piotrtrebisz6602 HSR in America would be used for long distance travel between cities, not for travel within cities.

@piotrtrebisz6602 one thing I wonder is, would HSR trains in America run "express" routes or would there be stops along its route of travel? Say for example you have a HSR train from New York to Los Angeles. Is it going to stop at each major city along the way? There are a lot of major cities between NYC and L.A., and stopping would obviously add significant travel time with having to decelerate and stop to allow passengers to get off and others to get on. I have no doubt that HSR trains would be more spacious and comfortable than airplanes, but you can't add too much travel time or otherwise it loses its appeal. Nevertheless, we should at least have express routes that run between the largest cities.

@qjtvaddict sure but not too many. Stopping in Kansas City on the way to L.A. is fine, but not Charleston, West Virginia or Dodge City. Also you could have “express trains” (for a more expensive fare) as well as trains that made stops (cheaper, for passengers not in a hurry).
