Every business has at least one employee monitoring the self-checkout area, in addition to LP personnel who are watching cameras - that is obvious because otherwise people will try to get away without scanning an item. If there's a problem, the employee will promptly assist. In this case, she stopped him from leaving to politely inform him that his payment didn't go through. Any legitimate person would not have reacted like he did here. I work retail and thousands of customers are able to successfully complete a self-checkout transaction without "mistakenly" leaving before their merchandise has been paid for.
