The definition of "irony" is someone who moves to Southern California, then turns around and complains about traffic and crowds.

California: The Golden Overpopulation State

Matthew Jay Evans in 1985 the population of California was 26 million. Today it’s almost 40 million . Doesn’t sound like people are “fleeing” to ME.

Bombardier Transportation irrelevant to the broader picture

Tom Davis although it might be a decent place to visit (during off season/winter) to me it would be a pretty lousy place to live even if I were extremely wealthy. The traffic and crowds by themselves are dealbreakers for me.

That's actually not such a bad idea. Even if you're at the very furthest end of the U, it is (at most) not even a mile and a half walk. People however are lazy and don't even want to walk 100 feet through a parking lot.

@PInk77W1 it is NOT an hour walk. Even if you're at the furthest end of the U it's barely a mile and a half, so that shouldn't take more than half an hour unless you are a tortoise. I live in Chicago and walk at least twice that distance every day doing my various errands.

@DustinEvans1966 I don't know if you've driven Uber or Lyft before (I have) but the GPS will pinpoint the passenger to their exact location even if they mistakenly select the wrong pick-up point. So for example if the passenger walks to the In-and-Out Burger and tells the Lyft driver they are at LAX, Lyft software will still guide them to the correct and precise spot. You have a good idea but like I said, I think the general laziness and entitlement of people would deter them from walking that far. And it's L.A. too, so it's not like cold weather or rain, etc., will ever be an impediment.

Not to mention fuel charges, increased insurance prices, and having to pay self-employment taxes. It's because people are dumb.

Gabriela s Uber/Lyft is NOT a real job

@lakasngamatzko4523 I think you have it backwards. If anything, doing Lyft full-time is even worse than part-time. Given the choice I would take the latter, though personally I recommend neither option. Look, I've driven both Uber and Lyft (not to mention I've been self-employed before) so I am very well-acquainted with how complicated and burdensome it can be to work as an independent contractor. When you drive through Uber or Lyft, you have to spend more money each year preparing your taxes and you also have to pay self-employment taxes which are pretty steep when you don't work for an actual employer to match your contributions to the SS trust fund. This is on top of the added expenses of gas, maintenance, wear and tear on your vehicle, etc., AND the fact that insurance companies charge significantly higher premiums for rideshare drivers. The fact is that Uber and Lyft exploit drivers, and too many people are lulled in because they don't understand how our tax system works.

@lakasngamatzko4523 first off, it's you're not your . Secondly, it's experienced , not "experience". I was going to address the other points you made but then I decided it's not worth the effort to waste my time on someone who isn't even fully literate. Work on your grammar and spelling before you dispense advice over the Internet or make ridiculous and baseless assumptions about people whom you don't know. [block]
