If an engine quit due to fuel starvation they should’ve been able to switch tanks and restart the engine pretty quickly. Either way, student pilots are taught to switch tanks at regular intervals during flights. Running on one tank creates weight imbalances.

@young_pilot_rishi that time when my engine quit, I had just taxied off the active runway and was doing my (quick) after-landing checklist while on an active taxiway. I remembered reading from my textbook that if an engine ever quit on me very suddenly and abruptly, it was probably due to fuel starvation (which it was). I was a bonehead for running my tank dry but I patted myself on the back for reacting so quickly and recognizing what the cause was. If this had happened 20 seconds before, it would've been a disaster. I would've probably had to land on the blast pad shy of the numbers.
