My guess is they’ve retained a lawyer and he/she advised them not to pay her as it would create some type of “employment relationship” which could open themselves up to further liability for her injuries. Not a lawyer myself but that’s just a wild guess.

@kyleroberts1276 no Sammybalm is right. Whenever litigation is pending it’s best to say nothing. Any communication can and should be done by the respective parties’ attorneys. Aside from that, it would be really awkward bringing coffee and fruit cake to someone whom you know plans to sue you.

@kyleroberts1276 I’m afraid you don’t know what you’re talking about there Attorney Roberts. And apparently you’re someone who has a hard time admitting when you might be wrong. To answer your question, no sane attorney would ever advise their client to have any sort of interaction with someone who is planning to sue them not even if it’s their next-door neighbor whom they’ve known for years. Doesn’t matter whether it’s to “offer your condolences” or borrow a cup of sugar.

@delorestaylor8114 clearly the other family has lawyered up which would also explain why they declined to speak to the media. Which is another very wise move from a legal standpoint but not something I think the family would’ve been smart enough to do on their own without a clever attorney coaching them. By not paying the young woman, it will make it easier for the family to disavow any arrangement they may have had for her to care for the dogs. They may even try to claim she entered their house without their knowledge or permission despite knowing the risks. Ironically enough, the warning sign they had posted about the dogs (which the prosecutor mentioned as evidence of their guilty) may actually wind up being exculpatory. We’ll have to see.

Wrong. If you're offered your old job back and you refuse it, not only will your benefits be stopped, you will most likely have to re-pay any benefits collected after that point. One of the questions UI claimants have to answer each week is "Did you refuse work during the week claimed?" If you did refuse work and answer "no", congratulations you've just committed fraud.

@westtexasprepper If I lose my wallet with $10 in cash and all my credit cards, no big deal. Even if someone uses the cards fraudulently I’m not liable. OTOH if I lose a wallet full of $20,000 in cash what am I gonna do? Call the bank and tell them they have to cover my loss?
