He is trying to force a mistrial. The judge is aware of this which is why she is putting up with this circus.

Holding him in contempt of court would likely further delay the trial.

@ann-mariepaliukenas19 I’m not sure but my guess is that if she holds him in contempt he’ll go to jail which will further delay the trial.

@antoniomromo I wonder if some shady criminal defense attorney coached him about this, because he’s not smart enough to have figured it out on his own. Then again, he’s been in and out of the court system since he was in high school, so maybe he learned this trick at some point while watching attorneys bend over backwards trying to defend him.

@stoney2732 I neglected to finish my sentence. A contempt of court charge could lead to further delays, and further delays could lead to a mistrial. As Tony also said, a contempt of court charge lays the groundwork for an appeal if he gets convicted.

@cattycorner8 another person commented that he may have consulted with an attorney who prepared some notes for him. If you watch him he appears to be reading notes. He's not intelligent enough to have thought up this scheme to try and force a mistrial

@Lux Aeterna ” forcing a mistrial won’t do anything though…” …NOT if the judge dismisses the case with prejudice. If she does so, then the case cannot be retried and the defendant walks. You can ask any criminal defense attorney in the country and every single one of them (if they believe there’s even a decent chance of conviction) would be more than happy with a mistrial.

@Lux Aeterna whether it's dismissed with or without prejudice, a mistrial is always a nightmare scenario for any prosecution team and a victory for the defense.
