  1. You just verbalized what I've been thinking for a number of weeks. Looking at the presidential election map, Ukraine is two very different countries. Big Rivers make good neighbors. Concede everything east of kiev to Russia with the river as the boundary between East Ukraine and West Ukraine. Provide a period of time during which people in East Ukraine can declare their citizenship, and then move to the other half of the country if that's where they feel more comfortable. Negotiate whether East Ukraine is a non-militarized buffer country or becomes part of Russia. West Ukraine can remain independent or join NATO or the EU or merge with Poland, Moldova or whatever they choose. All of this traces its roots back to arbitrary boundaries carved by the winners in wars. We need to deal with the root cause
