The Dnipro River freezes during the winter, and the issue of bridge crossings could become irrelevant for a couple months, allowing Russian troops to storm the western side of the river without needing any elaborate pontoon bridges. I have a sense that the Western military planners have overlooked this possibility. Of course that's dependent on the weather, and would not permit trains to cross the river
