At the beginning of the movie Patton starring George C Scott, during his opening profanity laden speech, he is telling soldiers (us the audience) that being a hero is not dying for your country - it is making the other soldier die for his country. If Ukraine fights until the last man is dead, that implicitly means that Ukraine has lost the war. Elensky is not a military thinker.

Or alternatively, you blend the Russian oil with non-russian oil. Then maybe you run it through a refinery to create diesel fuel with no way to realize that your diesel fuel in Massachusetts was actually made from Russian crude oil. It's just a matter of paperwork...

Don't forget the coal, wood, uranium, iron, steel, uranium...

Watching the ships in the Black Sea online, is very apparent that Turkey is willing to play the role of middleman to bypass sanctions. The ships go from a Russian port to a Turkish port, then get exported from Turkey to the world since they control the Bosphorus. While Turkey is in NATO, they are not a member of the EU. Does the EU want to pick a fight with Turkey?

For those who are not familiar with her, Mika Brzezinski is the daughter of the late Zbigniew Brzeziński, and spouse of the faux conservative Joe Scarborough. Zbigniew Brzeziński was the Polish born National Security advisor to Jimmy Carter.

The pipelines to Europe are relatively short and have operated reliably. Russia has limited ability to export oil from Western Russia. Keep in mind that Russia spans 11 time zones and is an absolutely huge country. From Moscow to Vladivostok is ~4000 miles "as the crow flies" . Eventually, Russia probably will sell oil from its Eastern oil fields to China, but that will take a couple years to build the capacity. For now, it is prudent to just wait out and then stick it to Europe once they get desperate enough.

There is not an infinite capacity for Russia to transport oil to Friendly Nations. If they are not selling oil to Europe, and can't get the oil out through the Black Sea, that means global availability will go down. There's not a lot of excess capacity in the system. Also, oil traders anticipating a shortage in the future will drive up the price today.
