  1. I'm on spectrum and I have no difficulty with social interaction. It just can overwhelm me and I can weird people out. A lot miscommunication occurs. I can get into there and talk and be social and my friends and family know this about me. They know I won't make eye contact, that my body language isn't giving the message they would expect. I will struggle with intentions, take things literally, fall in black and white thinking, struggle to know when I'm interrupting vs finding the spot insert my story in conversation. and such. I get overwhelmed and it appears like I'm introverted which I'm completely not. Interesting thing is when I talk to others on spectrum none this difficulties are present. I understand their social cues or I'm just not relying on them, I don't know. So I tend to attract other people like, especially women who I don't think are diagnosed. I was diagnosed in 1980 at 9 years old. It's not that I can't keep up in social setting more the opposite just I have good chance of processing it incorrectly.

  2. I found being on spectrum I could learn fast than others once I leaned in to autistic side. Just look spaced out and absorb information. When masking I pretend to look like I'm paying attention but I'm not paying attention at all and putting all my energy in keeping the mask up. I also stim a lot when learning. In post secondary I did this when I realized I'm paying to be so I'll learn how I learn. In school I had to mask or be punished.

  4. As person on spectrum I experienced a ton of rejection then something changed in my late 20s. Women were suddenly were interested. So I had my first kid 34. So older age and increased chance of autism makes sense. In my case as autism is genetic.

  6. When you say bottled water, define bottled water. Do you mean the 500 ml bottles, the large water cooler bottles, then what about tap water that goes through plastic pipe such PEX pipes. At Water Treatment plants water go through plastic pipe. By that I mean plastic to sewer then treated and back into water system which get treated again to become drinking water at water treatment plants. Would all that micro plastic be there from that process. As well in water treatment large plastic pipes, I'm not sure if the tanks are lined with plastic. Been in Water Treatment plant doing IT work.

  7. Does this apply to people on the spectrum too? I'm on spectrum and find some mental health tips really don't work for me but I'm looking for ones that do.

  8. I used to do a ton of sit up. Can do 100 easy. Thinking my abs were strong because I could do that. Nope they were weak, it was my hip flexors doing all the work. Found that out when I saw video on AtheanX and show how to remove the hip flexors by putting you feet together in frog position. Then I could barely do 10 sit ups and my abs on fire.

  9. I can tell you how hard it is find non synthetic clothing. I can't wear anything even bit of polyester in it due to breaking out in rashes where ever it touches my skin. The percentage of polyester determines the length time. Lower % the longer I can wear before adverse affects. It never used to be this hard to buy non toxic clothing as it is now. People like me I feel are the canary in the coal mine. I'm often the one to get adverse affects from things long before studies show the hidden dangers.

  10. It's genetic that's been proven. It's neurotype. Like being tall is physical aspect. Autism is not medical condition is social condition we see we experience world differently. Communication is different. Autism has other disorder that more medically disabling but that also happen with non autistic people. Those disabling co occurring disorders in are autistic people are double that of people who not autistic. Why don't we look why that happens with autistic people.

  11. I read about turning pain off through mindfulness and meditation and I tried it I literally could turn pain off. Have splitting pressure headache from a change in weather and I can turn the pain off. A bruised leg that throbs with pain. I can turn that off. How it works is when I'm going to sleep. I do deep breathing and use my imagination to visualize my idea of what the nervous system is based on my body shape. I imagine following to path to the source of pain and just turn it off. This is being very mindful of my body and relaxing. This works for mild pain like bruises, headaches, aches and pain from work too hard in yard. I've never had the opportunity for extreme pain like broken bones. I've done with a sun burn. Works best when I'm going to sleep. Harder to do during day to day activities.

  12. I live in migraine central in South Eastern Alberta. We get Chinooks with odd wind pattern which brings warm winds in winter and extreme air pressure changes. So we wind, huge temp change from -20 to +10 C accompanied by pressure change. More people have migraines here than normal stats.

  13. Being young stupid at age 19 I tried mushrooms at party. Really didn't find it had any effect long term. What I did find was music, I could single out instruments. Listen to rhythm guitar for example clearly. As well colors were much brighter. That's the only things I noticed really. Oh one more thing being intoxicated that intoxication and by time I was off the shooms. I was sober. Never did again but does show dangerous alcohol is as impairs you judgement and reduce you inhibition. I'd have never tried this sober.

  14. There have been some recent studies have shown Ketogenic diet help a lot and in some but not reverses. As well misdiagnosis is quite common. 15 minutes is not enough to diagnose someone and that the average appoint time with psychiatrist. They get paid to put you on drugs and paid to see as many people as possible

  15. DSM-5 is an issue is that it looks only deficiency not that positive sides of autism. It's different way of thinking. On spectrum you can have people with disorders same and those not on spectrum have disorders too. I think nutrition can have serious impact on those on spectrum. I avoid processed foods as much as possible as it triggers a lot problems with me being on spectrum. Not eating those foods means less problems for me. The problems still exist they are just manageable but too much processed food and it gets worse. I get overwhelmed much faster for example.

  17. There is correlation to age of parents, obesity, diabetes and autism causation has never been proved. It's easily explain that these can have no impact what so ever. Take obesity and diabetes. It's proven obesity puts you at risk of Type II diabetes. Take how autistic people eat, sensory issues limiting what they can eat, you have interoception issues where not knowing if one is hungry or full, stimming can be eating a comfort food that is not healthy. Add to that getting exercise may difficult for some. As well alcohol use which is tied weight gain. Misdiagnosis and given meds that cause weight gain. So some autistic people end up obese but not all. That easily explain away in observation studies. Age is another problem as autistic people tend to 10 year behind typical people in terms of relationship, may take and extra time in post secondary to get their education. Have troubles with employment so they get married later in life if at all and that means having kids later in life. Mid 30s vs mid 20s. So if obese autistic person end up haven kid in their mid 30s what is more logical, it's genetic or obesity and age caused it. You can't make broad statement as true and proven based observation studies.

  20. Blind spots can be found with shadow work so I'm told? Is that true. I've tried I believe I've found some of my blind spots but how would I know for sure if I'm blind to it? Maybe it is reveals a few but not all or none at all.

  21. Wouldn't study on sex worker be quite flawed and that is work not sex entirely. It's very narrow type of sex that sex workers have. Sure it one way a person can have sex by letting a person pay to use them. But how is that compared other sex. For example sex in open relationship, monogamous relationship, dating courtship, app hook up, friend with benefits. Do we no a old study based observing sex worker applies to all forms of sexuality?

  23. Interesting thing is I never needed corrective lenses till I started working in Information Technology. Sitting in front of computer for few years and then I needed glasses. I've found I can improve my long range vision by getting outside and not wearing my glasses. Not squinting to see in the distance. I can go with out my glasses with not issues other accepting a slightly less clear vision in the distance. Never wear my glasses when skiing, don't want risk breaking them and find I don't need use them to Ski any ways. So what if the tree 100 meters out is crisp clear still looks like a tree.

  24. When it comes to shared roles in child rearing and just house hold duties. In Canada that has become normal. Not for everyone but for enough to be normal. Normal enough that people from other countries come her where that isn't the norm and are shocked.

  25. none of my kids go smart phone till they were in high school. By the we had old phones and with driving, jobs, school now the phone was needed. Mostly to get work, seem work place want the ability to phone kids to fill shifts and no cell phone less likely to get employment.

  26.  @roseleejones8342  It gets better. Age 10 is a hard time I think for anyone but for high functioning people on spectrum is harder I think. It does get better over time. Takes a long time to learn the expected social cues but eventually you do get it. Never gets to subconscious level where you just get it but you can identify and sort it out faster with time and energy. But she will find the right people in time. Therapy I think would have been a better benefit for me where they worked on self esteem, understanding my Autism, and figure out who I am and what my values are. Discovering who I am allowed me to identify my special interests that lead to far better social interaction with like minded people. If I could have done that at age 10 instead 15 that might have helped more I think.

  27. I used to get canker sores as kid, lots of them. My dentist told to swish Hydrogen Peroxide. I did, that was grossest thing I've ever tasted. But it healed the canker sore in few days and I've never had again. I told the dentist that his suggestion worked. He said it must have tasted terrible and don't do it again, it's not something to be done regularly but could be done if the canker sores come back if I can stand the foul taste. It was 80s and things change, this might not be good idea now.

  31. I didn't like being bored and child. When I had kids there was no time to be bored. I came to treasure being bored for hour or two. Now I crave being bored and alone with my thoughts. That seems to bring out creativity.

  32. Seems to me horses were a social status symbol for girls, from my experience. If a girl had horse it didn't matter if she was socially awkward or not deemed pretty, she had a horse and could ride and care for it. That alone made her popular. At least that's how it was where I lived. Then you'd have all the other girls collecting plastic horses and getting knowledgeable in order to get in with popular girls that had horses. My daughter didn't care about horses at all. She all about cats.

  34. To me the emotions are Happy, Sad, Angry, Scared. Just the 4 emotions that work like color pallet when painting picture. That's how I think of emotions. This is simplified to look like primary colors but it could mirrored in music 7 notes too. If I do it this way I can say create playlist of music highlighting lyrics be the verse, chorus, or parts of it. Then 9 songs played in order, signing the highlights. That's feel so powerful to me. I don't let anyone see me do this. It's like keys to my soul.

  35. Not sure about this but in learning the guitar if I'm sitting across from instructor watching him play as I play along with him my chord changes get a lot better. I land them more accurate, change them more in time with the beat, and can do it with out looking. Watching what you said on mirror neurons got me thinking am I mirroring his movements. As when practicing alone I find playing more difficult. Found that interesting.

  37. Highly processed foods don't taste good. There was a time when it did, back in trans fats day. One the removed trans fats, I find I can't eat high processed foods. Maybe a a condiment. If I eat processed food I get craving real food.

  39. Radish is cruciferous. I binge radishes in radish season each spring. Just love them when they are fresh. Fall is cabbage time, make this recipe my grandmother taught me. Ground beef, beef broth, onion, celery, green peppers and a head of cabbage depending on the size. Seasoned with hot chili pepper and oregano and splashes of worchetshire a sauce. Simmer till tend and server as soup over rice, rice can't be added as soak up all broth over time. This get better tasting with time in fridge as left over. You get a ton cruciferous vegetable with this soup due all the cabbage.

  41. I took a look into my sleep patterns and chronotype. So I tried something. Going to bed a certain time. Normal is 10 pm to 8 hour before having to get up for work. Tried 11 pm, 12 pm, 1 pm. What I'm finding is the closer to 12 pm my bed time is the quicker (20 minutes) I fall asleep and I stay asleep. If I got bed at 10 pm I got sleep in about 5 minutes a wake again in 40 minute then toss and turn for hour or two finally falling asleep. This seem to be around 12 pm. The I'm up again a 3 am and 5 am taking 30 minutes to get back to sleep. This also happen if I got bed past 1 am. If I get to sleep between 11pm and 1am I get my best sleep and wake feeling good even though it's 7-6 hour as I have to get up for work. But it go for 8 hours I might restless and wake not alert and feeling drained. I do find the later sleep time I need more naps. But naps for me serve a different purpose and I'm on spectrum and some days just need it to deal with over stimulation and regaining energy. I might see if I can shift my start for work.

  43. ADHD and Autism have been around long before plastics were even invented. ADHD first noticed. So I don't see the link. In my family history, my behaviors are the same as my Great Great Grandfather, Great grandfather and grandfather from what my mother has told me. I'm the only one diagnosed though. It's possible that microplastics are impacting ND people more than NT people.

  44. That talk about drinking. in 60s/70s people drank at their desk job in clouds tobacco smoke. I can't even imagine that. Heard all these stories at retirement parties when I first started working here. Hard to imagine a time like that.

  45. I did the test on my chronotype. Moderate evening. Which make complete sense to me. If I'm on holidays and take 3 weeks. I wake up like clock at 9:45, no alarm needed. If try to go bed early than midnight I struggle to get to sleep. I get the initial dreamy state and wake up like it's just nap then I'm awake till after 12:00 pm. Then I'm sleeping ok waking from time to time but easy to get back to sleep until my alarm goes of 6 am and I'm groggy, not hungry at. It's hard to eat at all till after 9 am. That's when get really hungry. 2 hour into work. There is also that afternoon nap time that hits me at 4:30 pm.

If I took smart phone back in time 100 years that would supernatural to them in past because they have no clue how the tiny device can play music they've never hear or considered possible and how does that device do, must supernatural.

  47. Where I live a dermatologist appointment has waiting lists of 2+ years. Serious issues get moved up the list that's why the 2 years waiting for just a checkup. Shortage of dermatologists, seems it not as attractive a field in medicine.
