@gloriouslifeonwheels3621 Legally, property taxes can only increase up to 10% per year. Fairly certain there’s a cap in CA, also.

You mean they started doing what every other retail & grocer has done for the last few decades?

Yet, that’s been a thing for at least ten years.

Can’t understand it either, & that’s just one of the reasons why I haven’t spoken to my stepsister in ten years. She’s the one that hits the fast food joints multiple times a day (while living in a house that she “earned” by pushing her elderly MIL & FIL out of), while yelling that those people who are serving her “need to do their dues, just as those CEOs had to”. She wasn’t always so crass, until she started watching a particular “news” network.

8 years ago (I remember distinctly bc me & my neighbor were both diagnosed with cancer at that time) my neighbor & I would have the lunch special at the mom & pop seafood place every week & the entire bill was $12. One day he was wanting a slushy thing from Sonic, he got a slushy, burger & fries, & I had only a coke & tatter tots… the entire bill came to $24.

I was a teen who held an after school part time job in the 3rd largest city in the country, when no one was open 24/7, except for a couple of taxis & one coffee shop. I, also, earned enough at that PT fast food job to save up for a car within two months. 30 years later, & I was having to pay 4x as much just to register an old jalopy, than I paid for my 1st, 2nd, & 3rd used car. Today my house is valued the same as what one of my clients just received from insurance on a 2-yr-old truck that was still drivable (driven to San Antonio & back to Houston a couple of times before the insurance decided to total it) & looked no less worthy than before. This event has left me completely despondent.

I’m near the Texas coast where I’ve been watching them take over a year to dismantle buildings that were built in the last ten years to withstand the most powerful of hurricanes, only to replace them with yet another cheesy vacant strip mall that can be knocked leveled within an hour.

But somehow those same jobs still need bodies to fill them indefinitely.

Right. I earned $18/hr in 1980 for unskilled labor, in TX, while the guys were earning $20-$23 for the same job. Strange how earnings have remained stagnant, while everything else has continued to rise, along with hundreds of imposed fees.

I was able to pay for a couple of vehicles with my first PT “entry level” job, in a matter of months, not years.

@mikew.to1 Our overall problem is, all but 3 of our current representatives, across the country, are millionaires.

20 years ago I remember the women I worked retail with, it was their way to afford insurance. Their husbands earned good wages, but were also dependent upon overtime, which put them in the highest of all tax brackets.
