There are quite a few cities around the world that is scary close to volcanos 🌋. Take Italy, If you are a volcanologist, nothing strikes fear into your heart as much as thinking about the next Vesuvius eruption. This Italian giant is nestled in the sprawling metropolitan area of Naples, population 3.1 million. We're not talking "nearby" like Rainier is to Seattle or Popocatépetl to Mexico City. We're talking a volcano smack in the middle of the city. It is merely ~12 km (~7.5 miles) from the summit craters at Vesuvius to downtown Naples. For your average pyroclastic flow from a volcano like Vesuvius, that is a trip that would take only about two and a half minutes. We've been lucky so far, as the growth of Naples since World War II has all occurred while Vesuvius has been quiet—its last eruption was in 1944—but planning needs to be done now for the eruption that will come in the future.

@snippets981 well there are 6 other islands in the area they can go to, I'm sure there are updates all the time. My mother is on holiday on Crete and this morning they experienced a 6.5 earthquake on the island. One dead so far and a church fell down, but it was like 10 sec rumble. So keep informed and don't panic, it hasn't be the end of the world. I have seen some hyped up and fear induced videos on youtube lately on the palma eruption, its wrong I think to keep the fear high for people there.

More than 6,000 people have been evacuated, including 400 tourists who have been taken to the neighbouring island of Tenerife. The flow of lava has passed through the villages of El Paraiso and Todoque and is making slow progress towards the sea, in some parts at about four or five metres (13 or 16ft) an hour. To the north, the 12m-high lava flow - reaching 1,000 degrees C (1,830 degrees F) - has almost stopped. The lava stream was 3,800m long (12,500ft) and 2,100m away from the coast, Spain's Department of Homeland Security (DSN) said in a statement on Friday.
