  1. Recently I had to remove a GPS tracker from an item of stolen and recovered machinery as it had been damaged during the theft and needed replacing. It had a small lithium ion battery in it about 1 inch by 2 inches by 1/4 inch (25mm * 50mm * 5mm approx). I caught the wires to the battery with the angle grinder and shorted it, fortunately it was loose at that point and fell onto the ground. I've never seen something glow as bright as that - it was briefly like looking directly at the Sun and was still warm hours later. Now compare this tiny battery to the ones in these buses that have to be loaded in by fork lift they are so big and heavy. Yes, exactly.

  2.  @sferg9582 of course there's the question of what is extinguished? To you or I we might say when there are no more flames or smoke being generated. But to the Senior Fire Officer present, it might be a very different rule. I saw a factory burn down. To me the fire was out in about 90 minutes but the Fire Brigade was there for more or less 24 hours pouring water on it (likely gas cylinders on site as a guess).

  3.  @salnaturile8653  that is shocking. I have an ex London decker (B7) at work. I'm sure that's about 9,000- but 1,000 between designs is nothing. Double the weight for an EV is shocking... Excuse the pun.

  4. Every few weeks in the media you will see a house fire from a dodgy mobile 'phone battery, which is tiny by comparison.
