  1. The secret has always been... more OEMs giving the choice. The 'year of desktop linux' is when you can walk into Best Buy and see Linux on Laptops sitting next to Windows and Macs. The closest I have seen to this was a boxed set of Ubuntu on a shelf in one, but that was years ago. Ubuntu's NIH and snaps is doing a lot of damage to that potential.

  2. I still pull up Synaptic now and again to poke around stuff. But it used to be my go to for learning about new software! I would run Debian Unstable, and update apt through Synaptic to see all the new stuff packaged for Debian! I kind of miss doing that... haven't had time to for the past few years...

  5. I feel as though there should be a distro named ZeppOS, with ROCK as the stable release, and ROLL as the rolling release...

  6. Mandrake was great, but I would experiment, and running their equivalent of rawhide back then would eat itself pretty quickly. I am wondering how well they got the rolling release under control. I still wish they had kept apt4rpm from Connectiva...
