If hell isn't real, then there is no final judgement upon the greatest villains of all time: Hitler, Mao, Pol Pot, Stalin, Mussolini, Attila the Hun, etc. It means that they ALL got away with their crimes, and will face no divine tribunal or retribution. The very notion of justice DEMANDS that there be such a judgement. People deny God, not because there is something illogical about the existence of a Supreme Being, but because they don't WANT there to be a God. Or, to quote noted British biologist, humanist and atheist Sir Julian Huxley: "I suppose the reason we (atheists) leaped at (Darwin's) The Origin of Species was because the idea of God interfered with our sexual mores." They find the idea of having to give an account for their lives intolerable.

There remains much misunderstanding regarding this topic. In the O.T., the word that is translated as "hell" is "sheol" (Heb., שְׁאוֹל shᵉʼôwl), which denotes the underworld, the grave, the pit, or simply the place of the dead. This word is used without any connotation as to the condition of the departed, whether they were righteous or evil. The N.T equivalent to sheol is the Greek word "hades" (ᾅδης háidēs). There is yet another N.T. word that is translated as "hell," but which has a far more solemn meaning. That is the Greek word "gehenna" (γέεννα géenna), which is derived from Hebrew origin and literally means "the valley of the son of Hinnom." This was originally the valley of Hinnom, south of Jerusalem, where the filth and dead animals of the city were cast out and burned, and which never was extinguished. This figuratively is used to describe the place of the future punishment called "Gehenna" or "Gehenna of fire," and is synonymous with the "Lake of Fire" described in Revelation 19:20, and 20:10-15. This is the place of everlasting judgement of which the Lord Jesus warned us in Luke 12:5, Matt. 23:33 and other N.T. verses.

@mati261000 You are woefully misinformed regarding so-called "eternal consequences" and the topic of "hell" in general. First of all, there is no such thing as "your soul getting zapped." The soul has no continuing or separate existence from the entire person. We do not possess a soul, we ARE living souls. See Genesis 2:7, where it reads, "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man BECAME a living soul." Man is composed of the natural elements found in the earth, and, when God provides breath/spirit (Heb., nᵉshâmâh), he BECOMES a living soul (Heb., nephesh). We differ from the animal kingdom in that mankind possess a rational intellect (after the image and likeness of God), with which we can relate to ourselves and to our Creator. Don't know about you, but I've never have noticed my dog pausing before his meal to return thanks to God before eating. 🐕 We do NOT continue existence after death as some kind of disembodied spirit or ghost. If we did, then the spiritists and necromancers might have a valid point. The condition of the departed dead is one of being "asleep in the dust of the earth" (Daniel 12:2). See also John 11:11, where our Lord Jesus states, "Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep." And also John 11:14, "Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead." Also Psalm 146:4, "His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish." And the "wrongdoings," as you call them, can only be propitiated (atoned for) by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, shedding his blood for the remission (forgiveness) of ALL of our sins. "...and without the shedding of blood, there is no remission. (Heb. 9:22). The future for all unbelieving humans is eternal judgement in the lake of fire (Rev. 20:15), which is the final GeHenna (Matt. 23:33). BTW, what's in YOUR future?
