  1. The Japanese Shinkansen (bullet trains) have safely reached operational speeds in excess of 500km/h (310 mph) using Maglev technology. This raises the question as to how fast one really needs to travel from point A to point B. To illustrate, this would be comparable to traveling from Cologne, Germany to Paris, France in approximately one hour. Surely most of us would find that acceptable in terms of travel time.
