  1. The 2-meter (6.5 feet) "social distance" requirement is just eye-candy for the masses. Most medical experts agree that to be effective in reducing transmission rates, the minimum distance would have to be about 8 meters (26.5 feet). Obviously, that distance would be both impractical and unenforceable, hence the arbitrary 2-meter requirement. Dr. Lydia Bourouiba, an associate professor at MIT, has researched the dynamics of exhalations (coughs and sneezes, for instance) for years at The Fluid Dynamics of Disease Transmission Laboratory and found exhalations cause gaseous clouds that can travel up to 27 feet. Efficient mask usage and adequate ventilation are far more important and effective at reducing transmission than this arbitrary and fanciful 2-meter distance.
