Moving from LA to Austin would be a SLIGHT improvement, in that the state of Texas has more common sense than California. BUT Austin is administered by an 11-member city council (10 council members elected by geographic district, plus a mayor elected at large). The current mayor, Kirk Watson, while officially non-partisan, has been a long time member of the Democratic Party. In 2011, Watson was chosen by his Democratic colleagues to chair the Texas Senate Democratic Caucus and served until 2015. Likewise, the Austin City Council, again supposedly non-partisan, is composed of 10 members, ALL of whom are affiliated with the the Democratic Party. The unofficial slogan for the city is "Keep Austin Weird." And the local politicians are doing their very best to ensure just that. So if you want to move to a city in Texas that isn't run by wokies and weirdos, cross Austin off your list.
