Czech Republic: 1999; Hungary: 1999; Poland: 1999; Bulgaria: 2004; Estonia: 2004; Latvia: 2004; Lithuania: 2004; Romania: 2004; Slovakia: 2004; Slovenia: 2004; Albania: 2009; Croatia: 2009: Montenegro: 2017; N. Macedonia: 2020. Finland and Sweden: 2023. That's 16 former Soviet and/or Soviet-aligned republics (and, in the case of Finland & Sweden, close neighbors) that joined NATO after the Cold War was (supposedly) over. And, given the current geopolitical situation, I'm sure that Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia would join also, if it were possible. See a pattern here? All of these countries have had experience with Soviet/Russian imperialism before, during and after WWII, and don't wish to repeat it again. Russia is now, has been, and will continue to be an aggressive, imperialist, expansionist nation. It's in its nature going all the way back to Catherine the Great.
