  2. Don’t count out Japan. Despite an aging demographic, the Japanese, unlike the Germans, are well positioned to weather the coming storm. They will compensate for the lack of younger workers by increased automation in the manufacturing sector. The Germans, beset by socio-political and energy challenges, will see their economy flounder. Japan is also a part of the “inner circle” of U.S. allies, both economically and militarily, and continues to benefit from this relationship. Incidentally, the Japanese have the best navy in Asia, and in any (non-nuclear) conflict, would absolutely clean the clocks of both China and Russia.
