The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution reads (in part) as follows: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…” The Supreme Court later ruled that this same prohibition also applied to the several states. IOW, there can be no such thing as “The Church of the USA,” nor can there be any such thing as “The Church of Utah” (as an example). Seems like Utah and the LDS leadership have conveniently forgotten this fact, as the LDS Church is so closely intertwined with the state government as to be virtually indistinguishable from it. Try running for a state or local office as a non-Mormon, and see how much success you find. The Founding Fathers gave us a constitutional republic, NOT a theocracy.

  2.  @TheLastDanite  So? A rare exception doesn't prove anything. Besides she's in a same-sex marriage with another city council member. Sounds like a wonderful person.
