However, squirrels are capable of hosting and transmitting (to humans) several serious, and potentially fatal, diseases: Salmonellosis, Lyme Disease, Tularemia, Leptospirosis, and (rarely) Rabies. People should understand that, while cute pets, squirrels are still wild rodents, and should be treated as such.
