  1. The top 10 countries with the most Orthodox Christians are, by number: Russia, Ethiopia, Ukraine, Romania, Greece, Serbia, Bulgaria, Belarus, Egypt and Georgia. Of these, only two have a fertility rate above 2.1 children per couple--Ethiopia (4.05) and Egypt (3.24). The rest fail to meet the 2.1 children per couple necessary to provide a young enough demographic to ensure population replacement. Bulgaria's fertility rate is only 1.56, although it has improved slightly over the past 20 years, up from 1.2 in the year 2000. Guess you need to import some Christians from Africa. Cheers.

  3. I'll save you the trouble of waiting for Peter's reply. The Irish fertility rate has been steadily declining for the past 60 years, from 4.013 in 1963 to the present figure of 1.786. This pretty much mirrors the current U.S. trend for the same time period, which is now at 1.784, down from a peak of 3.582 in 1958. Interestingly, Ireland's overall population has been showing a steady annual increase of around 2% for the past 20 or so years. Either you folks are having more kids, or maybe you're having an influx of foreigners, or possibly there may be some reverse migration of Irish people returning home from overseas. Or perhaps a combination of all three. Although I'm not of Irish ancestry myself, I've always thought of Ireland as an interesting place in which to live and/or retire. I think if the Brits would ever allow the six northern counties to merge back into the Irish Republic, the future for a united Ireland would look quite bright, assuming that it remains in the EU.
