@peterkratoska4524 You cannot “electrify and decarbonize” simultaneously. The electricity has to come from somewhere, and right now it’s 38% natural gas, 22% coal, 19% nuclear, 20% renewables (hydro, wind, biomass, geothermal, solar), and < 1% petroleum. The government doesn’t want any more fracking (for nat gas) or nuclear, so tell me where all this additional generating capacity is coming from. Coal? Not hardly, too polluting. And the rest of renewables just won’t reliably make up the difference. Right now California is struggling to maintain its electrical grid with EVs making up only 4% of total vehicles registered. What happens when that number increases to 50%? Your ideas are unrealistic and implausible at best.

@peterkratoska4524 The figures I gave were for U.S. electrical power generation only, NOT for the world. And the source was the official U.S. government EIA website as of December 2021. Screw the "world"--I'm only concerned with the USA's energy situation, and the criminal efforts of the Biden administration to prevent the U.S. from becoming energy independent from Latin America, the middle east and Russia. Within hours of taking his oath of office in January 2021, Joe Biden signed an executive order canceling the permit for the Keystone XL oil and gas pipeline from Alberta to Nebraska, where it would have connected with the existing pipelines leading to the coast. It would have transported up to 830,000 barrels of heavy crude oil a day, replacing production from Latin American countries, such as Venezuela. Nice going Joe--now we're all paying for your incompetency.

@peterkratoska4524 The United States never stopped importing energy from foreign countries, even under President Donald Trump. Both before and after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine contributed to a spike in U.S. gas prices, various Republicans bashed President Joe Biden for supposedly abandoning Trump-era “energy independence.” These Republicans have fostered the impression that the “energy independent” U.S. did not need energy from Russia and elsewhere under Trump, but then, under Biden, has been forced to buy this foreign energy once more. The truth is that the U.S. was NEVER close to genuine independence from foreign energy, even in the Trump era. Even in the supposed "golden days" of the 1950's, the U.S. still imported oil from everseas. “Energy independence” is a political phrase, not a literal phrase. Despite how Trump and others have made it sound, it does not mean the U.S. was ever going it alone. The mere fact that the U.S. has become a net exporter of LNG is NOT relevant to our energy "independence" situation. It simply reflects the fact that LNG can be sold more profitably overseas than domestically. Cheers.

@stynnieuwenhuis9999 While diesel/electric is amenable to certain heavy duty industrial uses, such as submarines, etc., it is wholly unsuitable for POV transportation, such as is commonly used in North America.

Oh, great…think I’ll go out and buy two or three of them. BTW, my late model VW Jetta (which cost me $16K new), get 38mpg on the highway and 30 mpg overall urban/city driving. Do you think that I could recoup the $34K difference in my lifetime?

This entire EV craze is the biggest bill of goods that has ever been sold to the American public. How so? Non-existent (practically) recharging infrastructure; inadequate electrical grid nationwide; rare and costly materials needed to produce batteries; questionable safety record (burning up); negative environmental impact, as Peter mentioned; and astronomical pricing, unless you’re wealthy. You want one? You’re welcome to it. I won’t be trading in my reliable gasoline vehicle any time soon.
