The automotive manufacturers have brought this upon themselves. Wages in this sector have been stagnant for years. According to the 2007 GM Annual Report, typical autoworkers earned a base wage of approximately $28 per hour. Following the 2007 National Agreement, the base starting wage was lowered to about $15 per hour. A second-tier wage of $14.50 an hour, which applies only to newly hired workers, is lower than the average wage in non-union auto companies in the Deep South. And yet bonuses and perks for CEO's are sky-high. The Big Three CEOs saw their pay increase by 40% over the last four years, while average worker pay only went up by 6%. By contrast, Japanese CEO's are still compensated significantly less than their counterparts in the U.S. and Europe. Maybe that's why Toyota and Honda have come to dominate the U.S. market.

@marksizer3486 It has to do with fairness, not proportionality. Does anyone really need/deserve $100M per year, while their hourly employees barely get by on subsistence level wages? Average wages have basically flatlined since 1973. Adjusted for inflation using the CPI for urban wage earners and clerical workers, the average wage in Feb. 1973 was $23.24/hr, exactly the same as it was in March 2019. IOW, workers really haven’t had an actual raise in nearly 50 years throughout both Democratic and Republican administrations. Let them eat cake, right?

@musa7606 Try telling that to an auto worker who's struggling to make mortgage/rent payments whil putting food on the table for his family. Ever heard of what the Lord thinks about this? "...for the laborer is worthy of his wages." (Luke 10:7)

@musa7606 You reply is totally off base. It has absolutely nothing to do with workers being fairly compensated for their labours. If that’s the best you can come up with, then your Biblical scholarship and exegesis is woefully lacking. Exo. 20:17 has to do with not desiring things that aren’t yours to covet, IOW, that which belongs to your neighbour. Fair wages belong by definition to the worker; therefore, he’s only asking for that to which he’s entitled. I seriously doubt both your sincerity and critical thinking ability.
