Waaay back in the early 1970’s GM introduced the Chevrolet Vega, a compact car that was designed to compete with the old VW Beetle. One highly touted feature of the Vega was its lightweight aluminum alloy cylinder block. Unfortunately, this design had the same sprayed on coating for the cylinders as shown in your video. The Vega's linerless aluminum engine was notorious for buckling and leaking, and was subject to many recalls. Finally, GM gave up on this design, and returned to the traditional tried and tested cast iron liners.
