  1. Going back to the 1950’s, I remember seeing those “Medallion” all-electric homes in our neighborhood. They were touted as the wave of the future, and were certain to replace heating oil, coal (ugh), and natural gas for heating homes. Well, in most parts of the country, people don’t use heating oil, even fewer (maybe none) use coal, but natural gas reigns as king. Why, because the cost per kwh of electricity has soared. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, prices for electricity are 513.38% higher in 2024 versus 1913 (a $513.38 difference in value). The current national average price is $0.18 for "Electricity per KWH". Of course, some states (notably California) are nearly double this average. Even in places where it used to be “cheap,” few people can afford to heat their homes using electricity. Same goes for electric hot water heaters. Electricity is for A/C, power and lighting. Gas is for heating homes and hot water. Case closed.
