@pooooornopigeon Well technically, according to them, my pension is based on the 22 years. I joined on January 9th 1984 aged 16, as a junior soldier. One year training, passed out in December 1984. They, being kind to us gave us a month's leave over Christmas. Flights booked, report to Chester, January 85. Got there, was on the Rear Party, as apparently everyone was in Germany. Fair enough, cleaned the camp up, and sent over to Germany. Then I remember this to this day, my birthday is in April, so the day before it, called to the Company Office to sign on? I was like wtf, I've been in the Army for the last year and a bit. Of course as I put it, it was just for fun and didn't count. So my 22 years started in 1985. I actually officially left in April 2007, one day before my birthday. Although I was sent on gardening leave in November 2006, as we were disbanding, I was Royal Irish Regiment at this point. So they paid me anyway until the April, got a double payout, so all good. So yes I mentioned 23 years, as in my mind that's what I did. Man and boy.

How's about, wherever way you pay it, just stop that? In simple terms, stop paying them, let them prove you watch them and any other Live Broadcast.? Man up, stop paying, don't contact them, so easy. I assume you are open to prosecution for declaring your car tax, if you don't have a car? Think about it logically. I don't do fishing, but I've never felt the need to inform the authorities I don't require a fishing licence, same as I don't need to inform the authorities, I don't need a gun licence. I don't have a dog either, but I believe you need a licence for one? Again I don't need to tell them I DON'T WANT OR NEED ONE.

@paulandjana Well more fool you for giving details when you bought the TV. I bought a new TV for the grandson during a black Friday sale very recently, went to the shop to collect it, paid cash, no trail, they asked for my address etc. Told them no thanks, took my TV and went on my merry way. The shop has no authority to demand details. A few months ago they tried to get my details, for buying a fridge freezer, said no thanks. If you give them, that's on you. Honestly, who is telling you this nonsense? What law says you must have a TV licence to own a TV? Years ago I cancelled my TV licence, by just cutting off how I paid them, the direct debit. X amount of letters later, 1 goon visit, as far as I know the TV mounted on the wall works perfectly well without a licence. I despair, you think you have TV, you must have a licence? Yes I get the point of, IF you watch LIVE broadcasts etc, then yes you need that licence. No problem with that. So hear me out, what if you use that same TV NOT to watch LIVE broadcasts etc? There is loads of content on the TV that is not live, catch-up channels and such like, people use a TV for gaming, to watch DVDs to name a few, but certainly don't require a licence to do so. So yes it's a voluntary agreement if you pay or not. I personally don't even switch it on, but the missus watches things on Amazon or Netflix, no licence required. As far as I know Netflix does some live stuff, maybe they all do, but after a few years licence free, what should I do, turn my good lady in? The bottom line is, myself and millions of others just won't pay for the licence, one thing I can say for sure, I don't care, they won't be getting in my house to check the viewing habits of this household. I noticed second hand, so if I bought a TV off my mate, is he obliged to inform the authorities? What world do you live in?

@michellebooth327 Why would you tell them? Serious question. Do you tell the authorities, if you didn't have a car, that you won't be paying road tax, or whatever they call it nowadays? Of course you won't. So why tell the TV licence people? I mainly shop at Lidl, but I don't tell Tesco etc, what I do, or where I decide to spend my money. The principle is exactly the same, I don't use any of the available services on offer, live TV, iPlayer etc, so choose not to pay, but I don't need them to know this. They can send letters all they want, send a goon one time so far in 5 years, same treatment, in the bin, or in the case of the goon, door closed in his face. It all pays towards my holiday each year, every penny counts.

@royalirishranger1931Â I can only assume you were in before my time, or we overlap at some point. Only name I recognise is Roy, as he was a CSM of C company in Osnabruck. I met the great Roger on a few occasions, can't say I was a friend. Not a bad fella, but this may just be 1st Battalion bias on my part and others, that when the 2nd Battalion was disbanded, it did appear that a lot of people were suddenly promoted, nothing wrong with that, but certainly people who didn't deserve it? We were in Cyprus at the time, a lot of people we didn't know just turned up. Tbh, in my platoon, Recce, was no problem. However, as time went on, they as in 2nd Battalion, seemed to have more influence? I was posted away, came back in 97, back to Recce Pl, first bloke I met was Billy McCullough? A CSGT. What a wa***. From that, looking around, my view changed big time. We went to Northern Ireland, then Kosovo, and another twat, Green, was CSM. Terrible person. Thankfully in early 2000s, I escaped to the home Service, best move I ever made. Unbelievable how they treated the troops. Was like joining a different Army. Let you home, more family time, etc. Really opened my eyes to how the normal Battalions treated our troops. In comparison they were terrible.

@royalirishranger1931Â Can't remember tbh, I left in 2007, so names are sometimes a blur. However, I remember certain individuals who were the bad ones, amazing that? Seriously, most were good, unfortunately some stick out more than others. Not being nasty, but most came from the then 2nd Battalion. Personally I'm a Belfast man, as most of them were, I'm from the East, they seemed to be from the opposite side, as in side of town. They just seemed different, towards us in the 1st Battalion?
