How's about, wherever way you pay it, just stop that? In simple terms, stop paying them, let them prove you watch them and any other Live Broadcast.? Man up, stop paying, don't contact them, so easy. I assume you are open to prosecution for declaring your car tax, if you don't have a car? Think about it logically. I don't do fishing, but I've never felt the need to inform the authorities I don't require a fishing licence, same as I don't need to inform the authorities, I don't need a gun licence. I don't have a dog either, but I believe you need a licence for one? Again I don't need to tell them I DON'T WANT OR NEED ONE.

@paulandjana Well more fool you for giving details when you bought the TV. I bought a new TV for the grandson during a black Friday sale very recently, went to the shop to collect it, paid cash, no trail, they asked for my address etc. Told them no thanks, took my TV and went on my merry way. The shop has no authority to demand details. A few months ago they tried to get my details, for buying a fridge freezer, said no thanks. If you give them, that's on you. Honestly, who is telling you this nonsense? What law says you must have a TV licence to own a TV? Years ago I cancelled my TV licence, by just cutting off how I paid them, the direct debit. X amount of letters later, 1 goon visit, as far as I know the TV mounted on the wall works perfectly well without a licence. I despair, you think you have TV, you must have a licence? Yes I get the point of, IF you watch LIVE broadcasts etc, then yes you need that licence. No problem with that. So hear me out, what if you use that same TV NOT to watch LIVE broadcasts etc? There is loads of content on the TV that is not live, catch-up channels and such like, people use a TV for gaming, to watch DVDs to name a few, but certainly don't require a licence to do so. So yes it's a voluntary agreement if you pay or not. I personally don't even switch it on, but the missus watches things on Amazon or Netflix, no licence required. As far as I know Netflix does some live stuff, maybe they all do, but after a few years licence free, what should I do, turn my good lady in? The bottom line is, myself and millions of others just won't pay for the licence, one thing I can say for sure, I don't care, they won't be getting in my house to check the viewing habits of this household. I noticed second hand, so if I bought a TV off my mate, is he obliged to inform the authorities? What world do you live in?

@michellebooth327 Why would you tell them? Serious question. Do you tell the authorities, if you didn't have a car, that you won't be paying road tax, or whatever they call it nowadays? Of course you won't. So why tell the TV licence people? I mainly shop at Lidl, but I don't tell Tesco etc, what I do, or where I decide to spend my money. The principle is exactly the same, I don't use any of the available services on offer, live TV, iPlayer etc, so choose not to pay, but I don't need them to know this. They can send letters all they want, send a goon one time so far in 5 years, same treatment, in the bin, or in the case of the goon, door closed in his face. It all pays towards my holiday each year, every penny counts.
