  1. ​ @skootergirl22 Because they loved their grandchildren. My granny always gave me 20p, wasn't even a fortune back then. I can assure you when she died she was penniless, so much so the family paid for the funeral. She had no savings, had the bare basic pension, that was it. She sacrificed so much for her children and grandchildren, most likely going without, to give me 20p to buy sweets. I was a child, I didn't know any different. All the oldies I knew were in a similar situation. Same as today, the ones I know are poor, have no other savings or occupational pension, so rely on the state pension. Of course there's rich ones out there, but most are certainly far from rich.
