  4.  @petrushka2  India is not west of China but south of it. Ancient China referred Persia as the 'West", the full term was "Western Region", this is well documented in ancient Chinese records. Ancient China never referred India as the West. Today's northern India was not a part of ancient India but was inhabited and ruled by Aryans. "Journey to the West" fictional story is based on actual historical records of Tang Dynasty monks who traveled to Gandhara, well known as the origin of Buddha Siddhartha Gotama and Buddhism, at the time Persian rule, in around 500 BC. Gandhara is where the world's earliest Buddhist manuscripts were written.
