The real fact is a large part of exports from China to USA has been manufacturing under licenses which paid China very little, for instance the iPhones, China got just a few US$ each while its export value was a thousand US$. So despite China's export to USA was about 4% of China's GDP but actually not real GDP. Moreover, China's total exports to the world was about 20% of China's GDP, this means most of China's GDP was domestic, not exports. China doesn't need USA as a single customer these days, not like over 25 years ago. Today's biggest export market is Asia where it takes over 60% of China's total exports. South America is another established ready market, as can be seen how fast Mexico and Brazil are buying up China's electric cars and buses. Then there are the Middle East, Russia and Eastern Europe. Africa is nothing now but in another 20 years with fast development by China it will turn into a gigantic market with over 1 billion people, about 3 times USA.
