Alas -- some people chose to ignore the "Golden Rule". I don't buy the "Enormous pressure of being a top academic...(etc.) excuse or apology. As she was purportedly trying to examine in her research, everyone is constantly faced with the choice of being honest or cheating. Most people, most of the time, seem to pick honesty. If they didn't, society wouldn't function. But there are some who just don't. Those people need to pay the price for their decision as society administers justice in an dispassionate manner. Does this mean that she's irrevocably bad? No, and there is always hope that she'll chose differently in the future. But she'll need to demonstrate that from the ground up, one example at a time. This is because people now have grounds for not trusting her. It's a difficult road, but I wish her well in her journey down that path to career recovery.
