A couple of questions related to the Marlots -- prior to the US entry into the WII, why wasn't Britain buying more of the F4F Martlet/Wildcat rather than taking scarce resources to convert land fighters? It looks like they had 100 of the G-36B versions on order and inherited about 91 after France and Belgium were overrun. Also, Willis mentions that Supermarine didn't learn what Grumman had about the flight characteristics required for carrier operations, but yet the Fleet Air Arm did have access to Martlet. Was this an example of a stubborn desire to "go it alone".
