There is an alternative theory for the Pharoh of the Exodus. The high-chronology reign of Amenhotep ii beginning 1453 b.c.e., with an Exodus date of 1446 b.c.e. (derived 480 years from a temple-construction date of 967 b.c.e.), puts the Exodus within Year 9 of his reign. This aligns nicely with the timing of the Jews arrising in the Hill Country. It also aligns well with the lives of the Pharohs of that time, but doesn't change your excellent summary nor conclusions in the end, but it does provide an explination for why they were in that region at that time without the rather drastic premise that they were just another "Caananite tribe".
