  1. Since you have them, have you tried swapping out the shifter cables? If the gear selector linkage is out of whack it could also cause the car to not get into gear. Chances are it's not the problem, but since you have them and they are easier to replace than separating the transmission from the engine, it might be worth the few minutes to install them and see.
